Travel Information for Mauritius

Entry Requirements :

Person who do not require visa to enter the Mauritian territory:
(i) Mauritian Citizens,
(ii) Persons having the status of resident as per the "Immigration Act",
(iii) Children of parents as per (i) and (ii)
(iv) Holders of diplomatic passport except those issued by the government of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Lybia and Sudan,
(v) The crew of a ship traveling for business or in transit to join another ship,
(vi) Holders of a pass issued by the UN or other recognized international organizations,
(vii) Persons wishing to stay in Mauritius only for a period of stop over of the ship on board of which they came or will leave,
(viii) Any other person whose stay has been approved by the Office of the Prime minister,
(ix) Holders of passport from the following countries:

Valid passport and return ticket (or open ticket) are required.
No visa is required for countries of the E.E.C.
Maximum stay : 6 months
A visa of 2 weeks will be issued upon arrival to holders of passport from the countries mentioned above as well as citizens of Europe. Any extensions must be requested at the ''Passport and Immigration Office'' Sterling House, Port Louis only if these foreigners have a valid return ticket or travel document internationally recognized and enough funds to cover the cost of their stay.

Health Requirements :

A certificate of vaccination against yellow fever must be produced by all travelers from infected regions. The risk of Malaria exist in a harmless form (P.Virax) in certain regions of the island but not in Rodrigues.

Customs Formalities :

Exempted materials: Used clothes and personal stuff and other articles already used that is required for the stay; 250 cigarettes or 50 cigares or 250 grammes of tobacco; 1 litre of spirits and 2 litres of wine or beer, 25 cl of perfume. Guns and bullets must be declared.
A permit from veterinary service of the ministry of agriculture is required for import of living animals. Dogs and cats must be quarantined for six months as from the date of their arrival. For flowers plants or fresh fruits, permit must be obtained from the ministry of agriculture prior to the importation.
Import of sugar cane is strictly prohibited.
